I'm picking out a Thermos for you...

 

This was the lunch for today in the temporary home for my "bento" lunches (a 669 ml Rubbermaid container). 

It contains:
-2 SPAM musubi
-an apple rabbit
-checkerboard apple (not pictured-under the rabbit)
-fresh cut up veggies (broccoli, carrot and green bell pepper)
-(not pictured)a really thin piece of beer bread that fit in the small space between the top of the musubi and the container's lid

This was my first experience with SPAM musubi. It was pretty easy to make- I used the can as my mold. I decided to put a smaller piece of nori (rather than one that covered the entire length) just in case I wasn't fond of the nori/SPAM combo. That was really the only problem I had with it. It may be an acquired taste? The nori+SPAM taste was a bit different. Maybe next time I'll use less nori?

Well...not really overnight from Japan-it'll take around 2 weeks for it to get here. I ordered my first bento box! I've been packing my not-quite-bento lunches in non-bento-box containers, such as disposable Rubbermaid containers, my lunchbox, and it's just hard to tell how much I'm supposed to put in-and with the Rubbermaid containers, it's really difficult to fit enough in! 
The bento that I'm eagerly awaiting is the FUMO-FUMO-SAN 2-tier Bento Box with Chopsticks from J-list.com. It also includes the belt, to keep the two tiers together.




I can't wait!
